McKinley & Kristin had their 1850 Settlement Wedding on May 19, 2018. I met McKinley & Kristin at an open house the year prior and knew that I wanted to shoot their wedding. Not only are they extremely likable, but I had a strong feeling that they were going to be seriously amazing in front of the camera. Fast forward a few weeks to their engagement session, and they did not disappoint. These two are naturals – the kind of unicorns that show up every 3 years or so 🙂
Now back to the wedding at 1850 Settlement, I arrived about two hours before the wedding to shoot some pre-ceremony photos of the wedding party and to set up McKinley & Kristin’s first look. This venue has several amazing pockets to shoot. So many that it was hard to narrow down. It was kind of like being in front of the salad bar at Fogo de Chao, too many options and a plate not big enough. I wanted it all, and I tried my hardest to make it happen. All of the photos turned out awesome, and it was very challenging creating a refined selection to represent such a fantastic wedding. The first image in the series is a naturally lit image of McKinley & Kristin with just the right amount of wind. This was shot with my Nikon 58mm, f/1.4 wide open. The 58mm is not the easiest lens in my kit, but it has such a spectacular look to it, that it is my go to much of the time. The lighting during their portraits was really wonderful. It had a soft pastel look and needed very little work when it came to editing. After we wrapped up their post-wedding portraits, it was party time. Spirits were ultra high and everyone had an amazing time dancing the night away, compliments of DJ Brandon Shabazz of Premier Entertainment. I also need to give a shout out to Kali with Kindle & Gather Event Design for doing such an awesome job keeping this wedding on track and for making this lovely couple so happy. I really enjoyed being a part of this wedding, and I am thrilled to share some of my favorites with you. Many congrats to McKinley & Kristin!
