Whitney and Jason got married on Saturday September 9, 2017 at The Springs Resort in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. I was thrilled when they asked me to be their wedding photographer. I am good friends with these two, and it was an honor and a privilege to be a part of their wedding day.
La Fortuna is a small town in Costa Rica, northwest of the capital, San José. It’s known as a gateway to Arenal Volcano National Park, comprising 2 volcanoes, one of which is active. The resort that we stayed at is stunning. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and made our way from the airport to the resort. The bus trip was about 3 hours from the airport, so we had a chance to see the some of the gorgeous countryside as soon as we arrived. The first two days at the resort was all about R&R. We all had a great time hanging by the pool, drinking rum, and going on excursions.
The wedding day flew by in the blink of an eye! I arrived at the ladies suite a couple hours before the ceremony for some getting ready shots and the first look with Whitney and her dad. Afterward, I headed to the guys quarters for some pre wedding photos of them as well. The session was short and sweet, and gave them a chance to cool off before the wedding. Did I mention that the weather was warm?
The wedding ceremony was beautiful. The lighting was soft, and the view of the volcano was perfectly visible unlike the previous two days which was cloudy. I absolutely love how the photos turned out. After the ceremony was wrapped up, I shot Whitney & Jason’s portraits. Jason is an accomplished photographer himself, so I was really excited about shooting some really dramatic shots that would impress. The first image in the series is a two-image flash composite taken in the main lobby of the resort. As soon as I arrived on Thursday, I knew that I was going to take this photo. I had been eagerly awaiting the moment that I was able to execute it. The cool blue and the warm fill light gives this shot some real drama. I am over the moon with the final result.
After the portraits were wrapped up, it was party time. It was no easy task narrowing down the dance photos for this post. There were hundreds of dance shots to choose from. I am sure that everyone will be excited to see their party face in action when I release the full collection! I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this wedding, and I am excited to share the post with you. I need to give my wife Kim a big shout out for helping me shoot this wedding. She did an awesome job as always!
